Long Distance Relationships

Now I am no relationship expert, but I have been in a LDR for 7 months & I've learned a lot about what seems to work & what doesn't (for us.) Looking past at the arguments my significant other & I have had, I have been able to come up with 5 key things that if we had always followed would have seriously minimized us arguing.

#1: Don't compare.
Every relationship is different.
Have your own expectations of what makes you happy &
if those are being met then who cares what Bob & Sue are doing.
#2: Be confident.
This goes hand-in-hand with not being jealous.
At the end of the day, we chose each other rather than being single &
galavanting with other people in the area.
Jealousy is nothing but a mood-killing, fight-causing, relationship ender.
#3: Avoid passive aggressive comments.
All these comments do is make people angry.
Being straightforward is actually effective at getting your point across.
#4: No yelling.
Yelling on the phone usually leads to someone hanging up.
Skype is a way more effective way to talk when angry or upset
because seeing each other can calm you both down.
#5: Have a next step.
Whether it's a short-weekend getaway, a weeklong vacation, or moving...
This is one thing we have always gotten right. :)

Now... if only I could practice what I preach then I would have the best relationship ever...

But like I told my biffle a few nights ago, relationships take work. They're not going to always be perfect & without effort from both sides, there are going to be kinks & rocky parts. You're gonna have to make compromises you'd rather not make, but you do it because you love each other. & getting through the hard parts is what makes a relationship stronger & what makes it last.

Wow! You are very courageous, a LDR is really hard and it seams like you two are doing a really good job.

I really like your blog, you have interesting posts here. Do you want to follow each other, I would love that.
